PETER XAN

Announces debut EP God Save The King out 5 October via FADER Label featuring songs with Grian Chatten from Fontaines DC and Dan Carey.

With his life-long love of indie-rock, Xan is refocusing the lens and dismantling the deeply embedded norms, traditions and prejudices that continue to exist in modern alternative music. The Nigerian-British musician is breaking new ground by blending his love of acts such as The Jam and The Libertines with his family’s West-African heritage all aided by his boundary pushing charisma.

Xan on the new single: ‘Hostage is about breaking free from whatever is holding you back. I wrote this song from a perspective of love. “No channel orange baby girl you know I think about you I sent you flowers in the winter I know I timed it badly”. The verses have a very 'us against us' mentality. However, the conflict comes in the chorus “you held me hostage, release me from your bondage.” ‘Hostage’, along with previous singles ‘FIFA’ and the Dan Carey produced ‘Pressure’ all feature on upcoming EP God Save The King, a body of work bursting with pointed hooks, glistening melodies, gnarly energy and a spirit that evokes a lineage of British guitar music spanning 1970s punk to 2000s indie.

Speaking on the EP Xan says: “This EP signifies the new reign of Peter Xan. I have become the artist I searched for as a child. I found many indie acts that I loved but very few who looked like me and none of them dared to use any auto tune. I feel GOD SAVE THE KING is a modern indie rock project glazed with auto tune and distorted guitars with live drums that will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. This record will last and represents a new era where genre liberates rather oppresses. This EP is noisy, loud, and anthemic, and whether you like it or not ,you will feel something. The words give you a look into my life growing up in Britain and the challenges of feeling like the odd one out in a Nigerian-British household. Dan Carey's ruthless blow out drums and guitar processing harnessed my personal need for chaos. Karma kid's work on Idols is euphoric coronation. This is not a studio album, this is a live album. This isn’t a new sound, this is a coming of age. This is my manifesto.”

Accompanying each track from God Save The King is a VMA-worthy video all shot in Ghana and directed by Xan. The video for lead single ‘Hostage’ sees our young Rock King in a wryly played out kidnapping, where his larger than life persona carries the narrative effortlessly.
