Millie Manders
“High-octane, fierce, bursting with attitude and almost obnoxiously addictive" - Fortitude Magazine
"If Kate Nash was actually any good, she'd probably sound like this" - Rock Sound
"The world needs more ballsy female vocalists like this." - MOSH/Hit The Floor
Hailing from South London, born in Chertsey and raised in Lowestoft, Punk-Pop singer songwriter Millie Manders has had her fair share of shuffling about before landing on her feet.
Starting her musical journey at the tender age of five, Millie has a rich background in classical, big band jazz and contemporary music ranging from punk to soul and back again having grown up with music loving parents and learning clarinet, saxophone, voice and ukulele.
Incorporating this with a sassy social consciousness, Millie creates cross-genre punk that is hard to ignore. With lyricism that pokes fun, draws you in or leaves you questioning social norms teamed with incredible vocal dexterity, grinding guitars, irresistible horn hooks and a pumping rhythm section, the Millie Manders Music Machine churns out more raw punk fusion than you can shake a stick at, and she won’t be fading into the background of anyone’s memory any time soon.
Having had various musical projects, most notably Second Sense and one failed recording deal, Millie launched her solo career in 2013, taking her acoustic sound around the UK, building her loyal fan-base and releasing her first EP “Demon”. Singles Demon and Raw saw her get airplay on multiple local radio stations including BBC Introducing Norfolk, Coral Rose Radio in Liverpool, RKC in France, Krystal Radio in Essex and Shoreditch Radio in London, plus regular spins on internet stations in New Zealand, Canada and America.
In 2014 Millie sought out a full band whist continuing to tour, and began work on new material and rounding her now recognisable sound. She says; “I have always loved the energy of working with a band. Not just for the amazing sound of guitars, drums and bass, but for that family feeling of working in a unit for a common goal. There’s nothing like it”. By early 2015 Millie had found a group of like-minded musicians in the form of Musa Henderson on guitars, Frankie P on bass and Alessandro Vitiello on drums. They set to work to release EP “The Free-P”.
2015 has been a huge year for Millie Manders and her band. Having caught the attention of high profile fans such as Lynval Golding and Horace Panter (The Specials), Nick Welsh (Bad Manners/King Hammond), John Kennedy (RadioX), Itch and Jamie Jazz (The King Blues) and Matt Stocks (Metal Hammer/Team Rock Radio) they have gone on to have a successful Pledge Music campaign reaching well past their goal, touring the UK and playing well known festivals such as Kaya, Blackthorn, Tramlines, The Great Escape and Specialized before releasing new EP “Obsession Transgression” to great critical acclaim.
Magazines such as Rock Sound, Fortitude, Melographic and MOSH have all been hugely positive about Obsession Transgression and predictive future of Millie Manders, and 2016 is already bubbling away with exciting announcements dying to come out of the woodwork.
“Watch this space” is a term very much worth it’s salt when considering the hype surrounding the force to be reckoned with that is Millie Manders. Her live shows are electric and her songs infectious. If you haven’t listened to her yet, you need to…
“She’s got an incredible voice” – John Kennedy, Radio X
“I love it. REFRESHING. What a way to start my day” – Lynval Golding, The Specials
“If you see her name on gig flyers around the UK, go and check her out … She’s a great artist, and one to watch” – Matt Stocks, “The Punk Show” Team Rock Radio / Metal Hammer / Classic Rock
“This girl’s really got something going for her. Be sure to see her everywhere in the not-too-distant future” – Get Mentioned
Pizzatramp
Three piece three chord skate punk straight outta South Wales, influenced by Black Flag, Beer, Pizza and Drugs. https://www.facebook.com/Pizzatrampuk/
Werecats
From the mean streets of Peckham these cartoon characters of pop punk counted their kills and honed their skills previously in other bands including the legendary Girlscouts, The Pukes and The Murderburgers. Sickly sweet girly vocals and fun dumb garagey pop! Rumour in Punkland is that Pippa was recently voted London's Number One Party Girl. Rumour also has it that all of their songs were cleverly constructed by a dog named Rab. https://www.facebook.com/werecatsband http://werecats.bandcamp.com/
The Fleas
Punk with hints of ska and folk. https://www.facebook.com/thefleas1 https://thefleas1.bandcamp.com/releases
