THE CHAPMAN FAMILY (Stockton On Tees) The Spoon is a big fan of these fiery teesiders so we’ve got them coming back to London for some dark new wave punk. Jittery riffs, big fuck off drum explosions and electrifying performances. Imagine if The Futureheads had a penchant for metal….. Swaggering new-wave call to arms, proving to be absorbing, alluring and completely contagious.' & “destined for greatness - NME It's a brutally hard noise...what strikes is the sheer momentum that the Chapman’s generate. | Fri 6th | Total Loss Farm *Eugene MCGuinness *The Tailors *Treecreeper | EUGENE McGUINNESS (Fulwell Cross) Barely into his Twenties, Eugene McGuinness came from literally nowhere last year to break the stereotype of young UK troubadours (you know, the ones that affect accents and sing about texting). His homemade mini-album 'The Early Learnings of Eugene McGuinness' got rush-released on Double Six/Domino garnering rave reviews for its razor sharp lyrics and heartfelt vocals. With a full debut album in the works, now is the time to catch an artist who breaks convention ...and the volume levels you'd expect from a solo artist. His songs are disconcerting in every way imaginable, like watching the guys from A Clockwork Orange have tea with your nan - The Guardian www.myspace.com/eugenemcguinness85
THE TAILORS (London) ...are a London based collective who spin joyous golden webs around the songs of Adam Killip that draw from elements of folk, garage-rock and the soulful pop of 70's AM country radio whilst mixing the outsider weirdness of bands like the Silver Jews with the country-tinged powerpop of early Wilco. Their debut album 'Wakey Wakey' got great reviews across the board from Q magazine to Adam's local paper. the best country-tinged indie-pop since the Lemonheads - Maverick magazine www.myspace.com/thetailors www.myspace.com/thetailors

With support comeing from everyone from Zane Lowe to Alan McGee and loads of plays on XFM and MTV2, it looks like Sergeant are going places fast by using the best trick in the book - writing brilliantly memorable pop-indie tunes.

STORNOWAY (Oxford) Indie-pop with a bit of muscle and - we kid you not - a trumpet playing horse that drums as well. Yes really (well it might be a guy in a horse's head but...). They'll have their new 'On The Rocks' EP on sale so bring a few extra quid as you'll be charmed. conjour up the innocent coziness of early Belle and Sebastian...Indie pop fans will melt in the brains - ARTROCKER ...like the Byrds gone psychotic...Oxford’s best-kept secret. I have a feeling they won’t be for much longer - OXFORDBANDS www.myspace.com/stornoway
SONICFLYER (Siberia/London) were formed in Barnaul, a remote town in Southern Siberia, by brother and sister duo Yulia (vocals, lead guitar) and Dima (drums). Quickly after moving to London the band recruited Chris (rhythm guitar, backing vocals) and Rob (bass, backing vocals), the band developed Yulia's yearning pop songs of hope and escapism, coupling their Britpop influences with an intense, layered sound that recalls My Bloody Valentine, Chapterhouse or Mew. | Thu 12th | Windie Miller's Music Club *Elle Milano *Maths Class *Rotary Ten *Pretty Bricks | ELLE MILANO ...is no willowy ravenhaired songstress, nor someone gracing the pages of Vogue, Tatler and Hello. Get ready for guitars to slam ribcages, bass to pound groins and drums to rattle cranial walls. Get ready for shiny keyboards and melodic ingenuity to seduce you with revitalized, rewired synth pop. Get ready to be soothed by heartfelt tales of late night loneliness, adolescent confusion and twenty-something disgust. ELLE MILANO is not what you expect at all. Bursting with melodies, hooks and sing along choruses - Clash Magazine www.myspace.com/ellemilano
MATHS CLASS (Brighton) Less than two years in and Maths Class’ quest for world domination has already seen them gain support slots with the likes of Foals and Battles. With a plethora of UK Festivals lying in their wake and the impending release of their debut EP ‘Now This Will Take Two Hands’, Maths Class are quickly building up a reputation for being what the NME call 'the sort that cause impromptu nosebleeds'. It’ll be loud, it’ll be chaotic, and for those of you who try to hide at the back – don’t expect them to stand still!!! www.myspace.com/mathsclass
ROTARY TEN (Sheffield/Lincoln) This tale begins with four young men who like to spend their time somewhere in the middle of England, making music in the remnants of an old milking shed. It may not seem like the ideal catalyst to rock ‘n’ roll stardom, but recent support slots with The Killers, British Sea Power and Lightspeed Champion would suggest otherwise. Their debut LP 'These Are Our Hands is out on 2nd June. If the Smiths had gone to college in the US this might have been their sound. Complex, melodic guitar entwines with an 'anthemic' chorus. Possible classic. - The Observer www.myspace.com/rotaryten

The two shared a common interest in folk and acoustic music from the early traditions to the folk revivals of the 60s through to the contemporary post folk movements of the 21st century, and gave themselves a few loose, breakable rules.: To be: 1. Predominantly acoustic 2. Predominantly English in origin. 3. Recorded in the artists’ own intimate environment as much as possible. With no rules broken, What The Folk was born. 'Post-folk, psychedelia, electronica, bluegrass? It’s all just a flutter away.'
