Q WITHOUT U (Glasgow)
They say 'We make new-wavey noises with the occasional burp of electronica', Losingtoday.com say - 'An unnerving bruised beauty that radiates, fizzes and hurts in equal measures, this star crossed gem pulls and picks at your defences harnessed in a subtle 70's prog / kraut rock chassis and comes armed with its control settings set for stun. An absolute gem of a release' - and hell we agree! So here's to Glasgow's finest!

ONEYESBLUE (Midlands)
....are a band at the fore-front of the Midlands music scene, spearheading the revival of grass roots Blues and Americana. The band who were recently described as 'The Sweethearts of the Rodeo', deliver a raw 1960s Basement Blues sound, with fuzzed out guitars, pounding drums and 3 harmonised vocal melody lines. Although still only under 2 years old Oneyesblue have supported the likes of The Thrills, The Zutons & Maximo Park.

LETTERS (London)
....are 1 girl and 3 boys from SE London. They play guitars, bass, loud drums and some of them sing. They formed in the summer of 2005 and have been intensively writing, pontificating and rehearsing ever since.
Letters describe themselves as 'chippy choppy' but hope to add clappy to that after some serious hand work. Letters are also teaching themselves to be lefthanded. Letters like a lot of music.
www.myspace.com/lettersband

YOU AND THE ATOM BOMB (Bristol)
Cataclysmic skronk pop - at once explosive and joyously bright, weaving savvy post-punk dynamics and math-rock time changes with gleeful 60's bubblegum melodies and boy-girl dual vocals.
There are a million and one reference points if you listen for them, so how about we summarise this as succinctly as possible? Righto… Like music? You’ll like this. - Drowned in Sound.

THE FELICE BROTHERS (The Catskills, NY)
Music that slowly ferments until morning, by which time you are ashen and weary and your thoughts grown fuzzy with whiskey. - The Guardian
Scruffy and scratched Americana that recalls Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark and early Springsteen. - Time Out
Evoking The Band and Dylan holed up at Big Pink - this is a gripping intro for these shores - Uncut
Simone, Ian and James Felice are the oldest boys of seven children born along the Hudson River of Olde New York.
Unschooled illegal street/subway musicians from the start, their distinct brand of songwriting and the lawless sound they've forged has earned them comparisons to Woodie Guthrie, Neil Young, Walt Whitman, Bob Dylan and James Brown, and for some ungodly reason they now find their homemade recordings played on a growing list of FM radio dials across the USA.
The Felice Brothers have adopted a runaway dice-thrower called Christmas and now they all live, tour, sing, write and gamble together in a 1987 special education bus in which they slave like a team of dark horses through the hungry night and dawn.
Their excellent and addictive debut album 'Tonight At the Arizona' has just been released on the trusty Loose Records label.

THE LATE GREATS (Eastbourne)
Eastbourne is a sleepy town full of pensioners and The Late Greats is it's full-frontal wake-up call: bright guitars, incessant melodies, stuttering jerky rhythms and shouty harmonies are all wrapped into three minute bursts of RAW energy. It's a joyously dynamic transatlantic sound that recalls the likes of The Fall and Pixies in their most catchy moments.

BASEBALL (Melbourne)

*Daniel Johnston
*Jake Bellows (of Neva Dinova)
*Jeremy Warmsley
THIS GIG IS TOTALLY SOLD OUT. THERE WILL BE ABSOLUTELY NO TICKETS ON THE DOOR

DANIEL JOHNSTON (Waller, TX)
...has spent the last 20 or so years exposing his heartrending tales of unrequited love, cosmic mishaps, and existential torment to an ever-growing international cult audience. He started out in Austin playing tiny clubs and handing out cassettes with original artwork for free. TheButthole Surfers, Mike Watt and the others covered some of his songs and a niche in the underground was achieved. Then in 1992 Kurt Cobain became a cheerleader when he wore a Daniel Johnston T-shirt at the MTV Awards and namedropped him in more or less every interview.
Johnston became known throughout the US and Europe but soon the stream of homemade tapes started to dry up as he coped with a long-term bi-polar condition.
This centruy ahs seen Johnston's profile rise with a collaborative album with Sparklehorse's Mark Linkhous, a tribute album called 'Discovered Covered - The Late Great Daniel Johnston' featuring contributions from Beck, Eels and Tom Waits, and then there was the release of the feature-length documentary 'The Devil and Daniel Johnston' which got a UK airing last year.

THE REDLANDS PALOMINO COMPANY (London)
Headlining this year’s acid country, in between prestigious festival slots at Cardiff and Guildford, the RPC have established themselves as one of the best ever twang rock bands in the UK with harmonies of a Gram n Emmylou quality having a lot to do with it.
'Composed of equal parts of Gram, Poco, Burritos and Byrds...these guys do country rock better than anyone else in the land' - 8/10 AMERICANA-UK
'this lot are the Best British Countrypolitans since The Rockingbirds' ... 4/5 UNCUT Magazine

LONE PINE (Cardiff)
Veering from harmony drenched, acoustic led tales of hope and heartbreak to all out swinging rock at the drop of a chord, Lone Pine are a Welsh quartet taking the best bits of the Americana and nu-folk and dashing them liberally across a sound steeped in the traditions of classic rock.
They're currently finishing off their debut album which features guest vocals from none other than Victoria Williams (from The Creekdippers) on a couple of tracks.
www.myspace.com/lonepine

MILK KAN (sarf London)
The mighty Kan is one hell of a party band, dishing out a mix of acoustic punk, hiphop and bluegrass with a side-helping of Chas n Dave.
New single 'Here Ya Come Again and Again' features a sample from none other than Dolly Parton and it's getting lapped up by radio.

*Fanfarlo
*Thomas Truax
*Goldrush
*Luke Smith
*Under The Igloo
*Y
This year's Truck Festival is already sold out but over the coming week we'll be picking some of the best new bands playing the best litle festie in Britain, so even if you don't have ticket for Truck you'll still be able to check out the tunes!
As always we kick off the run-up to Truck with some of our favourite friends and some knockout acts.

FANFARLO (London)
Championed by Steve Lamacq, David Bowie (see below) and a legion of journalists and DJs, Fanfarlo are, simply put, perhaps the most inventive pop band we have on these shores.
.....a very English sounding record. Imaginative instrumentation here too. It's great to see so many new bands moving away from the standard rock line-up...not that that doesn't still work, it's just nice to hear the sonic depth expanded a bit...
I've heard four or five of Fanfarlo's songs now, and, like a few of my other favourites, they have that particular knack of being able to create uplifting music that's blessed with a delicious melancholia at the same time. If you get a chance, check out the animated video for You Are One of the Few Outsiders Who Really Understands Us, made by the Fanfarlo's guitarist, Mark West. Now, why didn't I think of getting band members to do other stuff...could have saved a fortune. I'm sure you'll be hearing a lot more of Fanfarlo.
David Bowie, writing about Fanfarlo's 'You Are One of the Few Outsiders Who Really Understands Us'
www.myspace.com/fanfarlo
www.fanfarlo.com

THOMAS TRUAX (New York, NY)
A true one-off, there is no one else like him as no one else in the world has home-made instruments like The Hornincator, Sister Spinster and The Cadillac Beatspinner Wheel which all look like contraptions found in a zany inventor's workshop. However Truax is no gimmick, he writes mesmerising songs and the noises these weird machines make set them off rather nicely.
In short, a must-see act.
a bewildering melange of garage rock songs, avant garde sounds and cabaret showtunes, full of whistles, toy piano, ice cream chimes and invented instruments... with shades of Tom Waits' storytelling, Nick Cave's theatricality and Lux Interior's howling-at-the-moon madness. - SoundsXp
www.myspace.com/thomastruax

GOLDRUSH (Oxford)
Founders of the Truck record label and the Truck festival, Goldrush have carved themsleves a place in DIY rock history and the bonus bit is they're a great, great band.
These days they're more likely to be caught live in the US (where their music comes out on Better Looking Records) or mainland Europe (the City Slang label), but they're still fresh-faced twentysomethings who concoct a heady mix of folk noir and fuzz in the tradition of the likes of Grandaddy or Wilco.
www.myspace.com/goldrushmusic

LUKE SMITH (Canterbury)
A Truck Festival perennial Luke Smith has built up a cult following over the years for his anxious anthems of small-town splendour & sadness. He is accompanied today by his dad, Dave the Drummer.
'Truck without Luke Smith would be like Christmas without It’s A Wonderful Life. As ever, he’s heartwarming, hilarious and cosy, even with his new rock (ahem) trio, but the best part is watching the joyous faces of Smith neophytes. You can almost see them thinking, 'a cross between Richard Stillgoe and Eddie Izzard with his Dad on drums.. who’d have thought that would work?' - Oxfordbands.com

THE LEA SHORES (Peckham City)
Plying a layered and distortd yet harmonious string-laden psychedelia, The Lea Shores are a band on the tip of many people's tongues right now. In fact they're so busy doing festivals this summer (they've already done Wireless and Glastonbury and got a clutch of others incl, uding Truck, Tapestry and Summer Sundae to come) that this is their only club show of the season!
The Lea Shores are my favourite new band... I saw them supporting the Brian Jonestown Massacre in Stockholm and was hooked straight away. They should be big... they're already fucking epic! - Andy Bell (Ride/Oasis)
www.myspace.com/theleashores

HOPEWELL (New York, NY)
Led by former Mercury Rev guitarist Jason Russo, Hopewell's
third album 'Beautiful Targets' is released in the UK this week via TeePee/Cargo.
Hopewell's devastating live shows - unveiling a performance that supplements rock instrumentation with additional percussion, orchestral arrangements and bellowing horns - have left packed houses across the US clamouring for more and drawn drop-jawed reviews from the most stoic of journos.
'Hopewell play that sweet-dream psych-pop, you know the kind that starts off slow and melodic, then gradually builds to something of epic proportions. Makes you wonder how they get from point A to point B so well while maintaining those high soothing vocals. This band rewards those of us who like to pay attention.' - THE VILLAGE VOICE
'Uplifting, soulful, psychedelic rock. Welcome to Hopewell, the home of beautiful music.' - TIME OUT LONDON
www.myspace.com/hopewell

CO PILGRIM (Southampton)
Co Pilgrim is the solo project of Mike Gale, former frontman of the group Black Nielson. This being his first solo outing, it's a treat to hear the hushed waltzes and down-tempo melodies present here. Effortlessly tugging on heartstrings here and there, the result is reminiscent of a more subdued Richard Swift or a torch-singer gone porch-singer. Pretty stuff with a heart full of promise, can't wait to hear more- MC cheeseontoast.co.nz

THE PINEY GIR COUNTRY ROADSHOW (London)
Kansas' loss is London's gain with the maverick Ms Piney and her boys serving up an unrivalled old school country hoedown with a big city edge. It's quirky, it's humorous and it's a little bit noir but most of all it'll get you moving.
'The stomp and twang of these songs of love and life is quite unmissable.' - Phill Jupitus (BBC6 Music)
www.myspace.com/pineygir

THE NIGHT TIME (Brooklyn, NY)
Comprised of one artist, one reporter, one poet, one actor, New York City's The Night Time are an arty-indie bunch fronted by the smooth vocals of Rebecca Roulette.
They recently got featured on salon.com after recording a song based on the music made by the fictional band in Jonathan Lethem's latest novel. It's called 'Monster Eyes' and you can hear it at:

THE EARLY YEARS (London)
What do Brian Eno and the Windmill have in common? Well we both reckon that The Early Years are quite simply one of the best bands around right now. They put on one hell of a live show (with great lights too!) and their debut album from last year picked up rave reviews including these ones:
'A brilliant album' - ROCKSOUND
'Fantastic drone-rock debut with moments of great beauty' - UNCUT
'Psychedelic swirls of noise...with tunes!' - NME
'A debut album of wickedly ambitious invention that belies it's makers' tender years. Truly wonderous.' - THE FLY

HOUSE & PARISH (Brooklyn, NY)
..are a brand new supergroup featuring Jason Gnewikow (guitarist from Promise Ring), Brian Malone (drummer from The Gloria Record), John Herguth (singer/guitarist from the Love Scene), and Scott Winegard (bassist from Texas is the Reason).
This is their only scheduled gig in the UK apart from Truck Festival; check out their songs on myspace for some great psychie indie pop.
www.myspace.com/houseandparish

OXYGEN PONIES (New York, NY)
The vehicle of songwriter Paul Megna, the OP is the master of the happy-sad song.
A Modern Classic... - Americana UK
Paul Megna's debut has quite a back-story to live up to: He was taught guitar by Jeff Buckley and played Kurt Cobain in an off-broadway show. As leader of Oxygen Ponies, Megna makes minor-chord folk/pop for the end credits, a dozen songs delivered in a raspy voice that sounds broken beyond repair.
- MAGNET Magazine
www.myspace.com/theoxygenponies

RANDI RUSSO (Brooklyn, NY)
...mixes emotionally drenched indie-rock with psychedelic, punk, art-rock, garage, and folk influences. Her velvety singing style is as equally raw and beautiful as her guitar playing is edgy and unusual. Randi's a southpaw who plays her guitar upside-down and backwards which creates interesting chords and sounds.

Sorry, this gig is totally SOLD OUT and there is no point travelling down to try and pay at the door. If you didn;t hear about the gig, it's because you are not on either the Windmill or BSP mailing list, and anyway it was always going to be a bit of a lottery to get a ticket for this event. Better luck next time

CATS ON FIRE (Finland)
Following their stunning set at HDIF Presents in February, we're overjoyed to welcome back Finland's Cats On Fire. If you haven't fallen for these charming men yet, you will - imagine the lyrical flair and melodic swagger of The Smiths tied to a sweet garage pop influence. We can't wait to see what a mess they make of a packed Windmill - this will definitely be a show to remember.
www.myspace.com/catsonfiremusic

THE SUNNY STREET (London)
Featuring Remi and Delphine from French popsters Electrophönvintage, The Sunny Street sketch gorgeous love letters in the atmospheric hinterland between indiepop and dreampop. Fans of Northern Picture Library take note - your favourite new band just wandered into your life. And their loveliest moment's called 'Greasy Crisps'. Classy.
www.myspace.com/thesunnystreet

THE BRIGHTS (Essex)
Classic indiepop played by four boys who know how to jangle and croon their way into your affections. What you get when you lock fresh-faced young men in a basement during Fresher's Week with nothing but a pile of Orange Juice and Housemartins albums for company - a whole load of sexual frustration and
some glorious tunes.
www.myspace.com/thebrights

BRONTOSAURUS CHORUS
How can you not adore a group called Brontosaurus Chorus? Featuring HDIF regular and Pop-Art mastermind Scooby Dom, t'Chorus have a host of instantly lovable songs - traces of B&S, Hidden Cameras, the runaway day-glo pop of Tullycraft, and the sense that here's a band that knows how to leave you smiling. www.myspace.com/brontosauruschorus
