ZEA (Netherlands)
OH YES!!!!! In four years of having bands on at the 'mill few, if any, have been as mad, twisted, depraved, fun, enlightening, metal, stupid as this pair of Dutch electro geeks,
This lot are a MUST-SEE. A aural irrigation of the mind. And, they manage to make it fun though clever tactics like naming songs with titles such as 'We Buried Indie Rock Years Ago' and 'My Bed Is A Monument Of Hate Against My Job' and just being the right side of sane.
new album 'Insert Parallel Universe' is also out NOW. Check it out.

PERSIL (Netherlands)
Another set of Dutch noiseheads, this time in girl-boy format. More on the poppy side than Zea, they still have loads of spunk and were one of the late John Peel's favourites with him inviting them to do three sessions for him just before he died. They've also toured with Blondie and The Wedding Present.

Pioneering the genre of 'Anvil Rock' these industro-ambient types are on the way to acheieving underground cult status, helped in no small part by their recent score to a movie called Satanic Suicide Slumber Party. They're signed to Public Guilt Records.
'Destructo Swarmbots' brilliant, dark noise follows the lead of composures like Cabaret Voltaire in creating sinister souindscapes that are powerful enough to evoke images of insects tunneling through dirt, of the bodies decaying beneath them and the untold stories of the world's darkest corners. BLACK DANIEL (London/New York)
Kicking off a three-week residency at the Windmill, Black Daniel make the kind of music that advertising executives love: melodically assessable and commercially viable, whilst at the same time retaining an off-kilter sound to make it pleasantly leftfield without being completely alien to the listener.
Or maybe, on the other hand they kick butt with a mix of rock n beats...kinda like Jonathan Richman on a dancefloor.

DEAR THIEF (London)

CIRCUITS (London)
This London four pieces' frantic, twitching, spiky guitar pop, looks to the new wave sound of the late 70s and combines it with a distinctly modern twist to create something special. Citing The Police, Elvis Costello and Paul Simon as their major influences, Circuits are a new and different proposition. With their Morse code like guitar, thick rolling bass lines and powerful, driving drums, Circuits are not just another rabble of east London shoe gazers or indie-pop wannabees.
They've a single out later in the month plus an XFM session for John Kennedy booked for November.

DEXATEENS (Tuscaloosa, AL)
Last year we did a straw poll of staff members as to what was the best show of the year and well DEXATEENS came out top of the pile on points. Maybe it was the southern-fried boozalicious licks that got us going or maybe it was the bluesy Muscle Shoals vibe shot through with a punk abandon. Whatever it was Dexateens kicked ass - a bit like Kings Of leon but a squillion times more rock'n'roll.

NIGHTINGALES (West Midlands)
The Nightingales was formed by former members of Birmingham's original punk group The Prefects. With an ever fluctuating line-up, based around lyricist/singer Robert Lloyd, the band recorded a bunch of singles, three albums and many radio sessions for John Peel before splitting up in the late '80s.
Following sporadic reformations in 2004, The Nightingales re-grouped in earnest. Since then they have released five 7-inch singles, played around the UK, undertaken a small U.S tour and recorded numerous radio sessions, and made their finest album yet, 'Out Of True'.
The current line up, and best batch yet, features Lloyd, original Prefects guitarist Alan Apperley, ex Pram drummer Daren Garratt, teenage guitar sensation Matt Wood and bassist Ste Lowe.

BLACK DANIEL (New York/London)
The final night of their October residency, Black Daniel kick butt with a mix of rock n beats...kinda like Jonathan Richman on a dancefloor. Debut 7-inch Chelsea’s Teardrops/Information available now from all good indie stores as well as i-Tunes.
An intriguing blend of Velvets-like art pop and driving electronica with a beats-fuelled take on Jonathan Richman's sweet rock 'n' roll from these seriously promising headliners - Time Out
You’ll  be hearing a lot more from Black DanieL in the near future, but for now make do with this 45 which introduces their mix of scuzzy rock 'n' roll and dancefloor credibility, while ticking off the influences; Iggy & The Stooges, The Rapture, LCD Soundsystem, The Fall... Piccadilly Records

SHADY BARD (Birmingham)
Drawn from all over this green and pleasant land, shady bard settled in Birmingham amidst tall buildings and city woodlands. From here come scruffily atmospheric indie folk songs, enriched by a miniature orchestra of pianos, guitars, casiotones, violin, cello, French horn and samples which burst occasionally into catastrophic scuzz.
They have released a sold out ep on Static Caravan, been played on BBC Radio 2, Radio 4 and 6music, and performed at Green Man Festival 2006.
Unsurpassable beauty...shady bard simply radiate mellow warmth. The Fly

CALIFONE (Chicago/Los Angeles)
Over to promote their new album Root & Crowns (Thrill Jockey Records) and doing shows in an acoustic duo format, CALIFONE are simply put, a great American band.
Califone’s earliest roots lie in the band Red Red Meat, from whence came Califone’s founding members Tim Rutili and Ben Massarella and its longtime producer Brian Deck. The band’s first release was a self-titled EP on Flydaddy in 1998, followed later by the full-length debut, Roomsound, in 2001 (recently re-issued on Thrill Jockey) and eventually the band’s Thrill Jockey debut, Quicksand/Cradlesnakes in 2003. After touring for the release of Roomsound, Califone had little time off to take in the impact of the music they were creating. In three years, they recorded four albums (two instrumental, two song-based including Heron King Blues) and toured heavily in between with Wilco, Modest Mouse, Sea and Cake and others. They performed at All Tomorrow’s Parties curated by Sonic Youth and Rutili contributed to Isaac Brock’s Ugly Casanova project and Michael Krassner’s Boxhead Ensemble with Fred Lonberg-Holm and members of Smog and Dirty Three.
