THE SHORTWAVE SET (London)
OK, so we lost the headliners due
to flu on Friday morning and cock-a-doodle-doo (see what we just did
there?) we pulled the chicken out of the basket on this one with The
Shortwave Set whose debut album 'The Debt Collection (Independiente)
got mentioned in many Best of 20005 depatches.
Bit of a coup...they play elsewhere in London for a tenner but stepped in as this is going to be an historic night.
Yes.
Historic.
We know what that means. And we're not lying.

After a al-star performance at a recent Acid Country (we don;t remeber which one but it was last year..sometime) with the magic Numbers providing backing vocals, we thought it was high-time that this excellent swamp-groove combo headlined an AC event. having toured last year with Magic Numbers, Architecture In helsinki and others of repute, they have a new single out on Memphis Industries next month to build on the success of debut mini album 'Donkeystock' which made amny of those Best of 2005 lists.

*Surfin' Lungs
*Los Fantasticos
SURFIN' LUNGS
Rare London appearance for Britain's foremost surf music legends, formed many years ago in the unlikely setting of Bracknell they now tour and play festivals in the surf strongholds of Spain, Italy and Switzerland. Effervescent hook-laden songs about cars, girls and summer fun, full of high octane guitar licks, sublime harmonies and super-charged Farfisa.
In October 2005 they released their 6th full length album 'Surf, Drags & Rock'n'roll' on Wild Punk Records, and a compilation of their more famous tracks, and rarities, called 'Tales From The Beach Vol 1' on ‘Wizzard in Vinyl Records’ from Japan.

ROLAND SHANKS (Camberwell)
A year on and a deal with Moshi Moshi, a critically acclaimed single and hundreds of gigs under their belt, ROLAND SHANKS prepare to play at Brixton's WINDMILL on JANUARY 16TH to celebrate the anniversary of
their first ever gig.
And now 2006 looks to get even better... They've
been tipped by many as one of the new acts to make it big in 2006 and done a XFM session (which will be aired on Jan 14th) for JOHN KENNEDY who said of forthcoming single CUTTING TEETH:
This amalgam of The Strokes and The Rakes is so damn catchy it gets into your bloodstream and won¹t go away. Unlike other contagions though, this is a good thing - whatever your ailment 'Cutting Teeth' will make you feel better. I¹m still trying to work out the lyrical
meaning but the vocal, bass and guitar hooks are too distracting! The 'oh, oh oh, oh oh, oh oh, ehh oh' chant can not be resisted and makes me think this is destined to be one of the indie dancefloor tunes of 2006.

www.rolandshanks.com

THE ALPS (London)
.....love tunes - can't get enough of 'em in fact! Similar to less fussy post-punkers The Jam, The Police and Elvis Costello, the Greenwich quartet don't muck about when it comes to knocking together the kind of thorny three-minute gems that look set to barge their way into mainstream consciousness.

THE LUCIDA CONSOLE (Halifax)
Absolutely stunning band who don't play in London that much. We've heard great reports about them from promoters oop north and the good folks at Must Destroy! records are due to release a single soon.
Anyway, go listen to their track at Myspace - it's so good we're convinced we'll be seeing you down the front!
On the one hand snarling abrasive guitars, crunching riffs and machine gun drumming. On the other, plaintive solitary piano, vocals tinged with aching desolation and sublime emo dynamics…. the Leeds scene’s hottest prospects. – Yorkshire Evening Post

Sun 29thWindmill Brixton presents:
*Eberg
*Billie The Vision And The Dancers
*Black Alley Screens
 EBERG (Iceland)
..is Einar Tonsberg. He's not exactly your average musician. In fact he went to the bother of inventing his own instrument. He calls it an E-harp. It's made out of a coat hanger and has guitar strings and is hooked up to a laptop.
Eberg makes electro indie pop. He shifts between acoustic and disco. Q magazine called his debut album VoffVoff 'astonishing' and Music Week reckons his live show is a 'revelation'.
He returns to the Windmill after a successful show some 18 months ago to promote new single 'I'm Moving To Wales/Love Your Bum' on Instant Karma records.

BILLIE THE VISION AND THE DANCERS (Sweden)

METRO RIOTS (London)
Crashing onto the Thames like a drunk Iggy Pop lovechild, Metro Riots brash blues punk will leave you dazed and in love. You heard it here 1st [NME- yearbook Jan 05]
Metro Riots are heavily influenced by the blues although don't let that fool you. As though Leadbelly's woman ran away with his acoustic and dog replaced it with an electric fuzz machine. M Riots deliver a torrid of fuzzed up punk rock blues. These angry young men are a must for all those looking to visit Riotville. [Glasgow-King Tut's Wah Wah Hut. Nov 05]

www.myspace.com/metroriots

LUPEN CROOK (Medway)
Hailing from the home of the delta blues – The Medway Delta, Kent, that is – young and pasty Doherty-associate Lupen Crook’s debut ‘Lucky Six’ is a compellingly malevolent little song about child abuse. ‘Matilda V’ meanwhile confirms the 23-year-old to be the progeny of a raspier Syd Barratt, a Kent Kevin Coyne and David Bowie when he used to dress up in frocks and sing about gnomes. This is all good, especially when Lupen opens his throat and screams in a manner not usually associated with wan acoustic singer-songwriter types. [NME]
