The new early-start saturday club that so far has already brought the delights of Baxter Dury, Brakes and Dr Dog to these parts.

KITTY, DAISY & LEWIS
The Windmill Of Your Mind has taken an unexpected turn and Sebastian Tellier will no longer be performing this Saturday the 1st October.
Filling his not inconsiderable boots will be the UKs finest new rock n roll band, the family that plays together, Kitty, Daisy and Lewis.
After wowing crowds at Bestival and at countless shows all over London, Kitty, Daisy and Lewis bring their unique brand of rebel rousing rock n roll to the Windmill Of Your Mind this Saturday. They have a single 'Honolulu Rockarola' currently out on OOF! records and have recently recorded sessions for Mark Radcliffe and Rob da Bank.

OUR NAME IS LEGION (London)
Pop punk and pure adrenalin.....drawing from classic English bands as The Kinks and The Smiths, they have the kind of energy and stuttering urgency of Bis or Shonen Knife. This is perfect pop music made with
guitars by people who went to college with the sole purpose of forming a band and dropping out

Doors open at 5pm and there'll be a BBQ and chill session before the band start around 8pm.

PADDY MILNER
Something a little different and just a little special for a Sunday night iwith paddy and his full 7-piece band! Twenty-five year-old Paddy is a virtuosic pianist, singer and songwriter. His original and ear-catching style shows influences such as blues, jazz, boogie-woogie and rock n roll. His live performances are always varied and full of energy, featuring the finest musicians around.
His debut album '21st Century Boogie' with its original musical styling and accomplished boogie-woogie piano action earned him plaudits from Dave Brubeck, Paul Jones, Phil Manzanera and the guy that hosts the Later With show on BBC2. His second album on 'Walking On Eggshells' was deemed so good, the esteemed Bronze Records label was brought out of dormancy to release it.
But it's live where you can really appreciate Paddy's phenomenal playing and along with seven of the hottest young players around, it's going to be one special night.

BLUE SKY RESEARCH (Portsmouth)
One of the best kept secrets (so far) on the south coast, BSR already coount Ian Brown as a fan and supporter and their widescreen sound propelled by clever harmonies and informed by a little rustic sideline is something you'll be hearing on the qairwaves soon.

THE WAKING EYES (Winnipeg)
On a first visit to the UK and currently drumming up lots of attention, The Waking Eyes are a four piece rock band from the prairies of Canada.
Their influences range from the Beatles and Radiohead to Ween and Nirvana, yet the music they create has an inexplicably original sound and vibe. Always willing to experiment creatively the Waking Eyes often rotate their instrumental duties, but maintain a core set-up with Rusty and Matt playing guitar and singing, Steve on the drums, and Joey playing bass. Piano, organ, and other keyboards are often used to provide the songs with the band's signature sound. The Waking Eyes consider their ability to pen catchy pop-rock songs as their most important asset and with all four members cited as contributing writers they have a seemingly endless supply of new material from which to draw.
Onstage 8.45pm.

Thu 6thWindmill Brixton presents:
*OCS
*Cairo Gang
*Elephant Micah
OCS (San Francisco, CA)
OCS is a duo consisting of John Dwyer and Patrick Mullins, and they return this year with a double album
entitled 3 & 4: Songs About Death and Dying and Get Stoved, two albums filled with tales of the most romantic sensations of any person's life: love and death.
A fan of any of his other projects will know that Dwyer's gonna mindfuck our heads good and proper. Just because Dwyer chose to put down his electric guitar and strum an acoustic, this cannot be an ‘ordinary’ singer songwriter, folk acoustic thing. In fact, OCS is as intense and soul grabbing as any band Dwyer's played in. The sonic layering, texture of sound and perfectly captured moods creates a completely original record.
John Dwyer has played in half a dozen bands that showcase an entertaining, absurd, bombastic flurry of noise, sweat and manic motion mayhem.
Though Dwyer's unmatched energy is a much appreciated and needed force in music as evidenced with the huge buzz surrounding Coachwhips, a secret for Dwyer's success is his ability to take a part of who he is
and fearlessly strip it down to some refined basic human truth while coddled in that busted state of consciousness.
Soothingly strumming a pink acoustic guitar with a buzzed out smirk and delivering words as if he were serenading the last girl on earth, OCS punches your
face with an hour and ten minutes of some honest to God folk rock n roll.

THE CAIRO GANG (Chicago, IL)
....is a group signed to Narnack Records and has been formed and deformed over the years Throughout all of the different ideas and projects The Cairo Gang has always been around. Begun in Los Angeles, spun around the globe, landing in Chicago, The Cairo Gang builds bridges between the fragmented worlds of musicians and listeners, rekindling the desire to be honest and to communicate. to strive for clarity, but to be aware of
the fog. The personnel has changed over the years save for its core, Emmett Kelly, who with an increasing palette of musicians and instruments, has been able to construct these bizarre records that chronicle the strange elliptical lives that begin and continue and by the force of nature collide at these wild opportune moments, and then
begin again.

ELEPHANT MICAH (Indianapolis, IN)
After supporting The Broken Family Band earlier in the year we're pleased to wlcome back this jaw-dropping performer. Here's an extract from a piece by David Kennan in the Wire which gives a flavour:
At certain points on this latest limited edition cd-r, Indiana's Elephant Micah sound a lot like the kind of basement wave psychadelia that made up the bulk of the Boston Twisted Village label throughout the 90s, punk primitive groups like Crystallized Movements, Luxurious Bags and Bongloads of Righteous Boo. At others they sound a little closer to twig pickers like Alasdair Roberts, Gene Clark and Richard Buckner. It's a nice mix and the whole thing is executed with such primitive èlan and lack of concern for fidelity that it makes for a real endearing listen. There's some nice fuzz guitar, the kind only a cheap amp and an inappropriate condenser mic can normally fully capture, and vocalist Joe O'Connell sounds like he's been forced to sing quietly with a bucket over his head to avoid waking his parents. 'The Environmentalist' is a beautiful slice of narcoleptic folk that captures the lugubrious nothing-to-do feel of late summer days as well as the slow motion dance of dust in a ray of sunlight. It all comes in a nice hand numbered edition with a full colour wraparound card sleeve.

NICK KELLY (Dublin)
Widely regarded as one of Ireland's finest songwriters, Nick first came to prominence as the lead singer and songwriter for the band The Fat Lady Sings.
In September he released 'Running Dog', the long-awaited follow-up to his acclaimed debut solo album 'Between Trapezes' which Hot Press magazine described as 'album of the decade' and NME hailed as 'precious in every sense of the word'.
Like 'Between Trapezes' the new record was partly funded by fans who paid for their copies in advance. Their loyalty has ben rewarded with an album that continues a rich trajectory of stately emotional pop that sits somewhere between The Blue Nile and vintage REM.

CATHERINE PAVER (London)
Catherine who was one of the highlights of our recent Acoustic Festival, writes folk-and-country influenced songs that tell stories, taking the listener from the Wild Coast of Africa to the goldmines of the American West. She picks up stories from her travels and from English folk tales. You could find yourself riding a river through Namibia, seeing a ghost as the sun goes down in the desert, and listening to a tired and lonely dragon slayer by the fire. She accompanies herself in inimitable finger-picking style on acoustic guitar and has supported great storytelling songwriters such as Bob Cheevers, James Keelaghan and Clive Gregson.

OH MY GOD! (Chicago, IL)
Sounds like a Christian-rock band? It's not. But oh my god doesn't have a notarized contract on file at the devil's office, either. THIS CHICAGO ROCK BAND IS NOT AFFILIATED WITH GOD OR SATAN (though the band admires both their work).
No, oh my god is an Earthbound rock band--a killer one. Billy O'Neill (vocals/bass), Ig (organ/vocals) and Bish (drums/vocals) can out-punk, out-pop and out-rock 'em all, and they're doing that one show and one album at a time.
Formed in late '99, this utterly unique organ-bass-drums trio unleashes captivating tones and razor-sharp hooks in song after striking song...from the piano-driven pop of 'February 14' and 'There Goes the World' to the raucous rock of 'The Uptown Lumber'. Even in ripping rock tunes like 'Get Steady' and 'Volatile,' it's Billy's infectious vocal melodies that step to the fore, backed by the overdriven organ of Ig (who has played with Junior Wells, Buddy Guy, Otis Rush, Van Morrison, Jeff Healey and more) and the titanic drums of Bish.
Oh my god has earned a constant stream of praise from press all over the U.S. as they've toured hundreds of shows each of the last few years.
not your parents' art rock...soulful vocals set against an experimental backdrop of organ and drums (Alternative Press)
Oh my god hails from Chicago, but their keyboard-drenched hard rock seems more appropriate for Los Angeles. The Doors spring to mind, as does commercial alternative radio...The guitarless trio is arty without forgetting the rock. (Time Out - New York)

LABRADOR (Denmark)
Super suave indie popsters from Denmark,
Labrador pick up where St Stienne left off at the end of 'So Tough', with dreamy, trumpet-bolstered bursts of pop perfection. If you’re a fan of early Trembling Blue Stars, My Favorite or St Etienne (of course), then you’ll love these.

THE RED STARS (North London)
A brand new band from Islington and Lambeth, The Red Stars inhabit a quietly stylish dreamworld where Roddy Frame fronts the Tindersticks, and indiepop is equal parts poetry, sophistication and a perfectly strummed guitar. Formerly members of the 1940s-tinged (and
Actionettes-associated) Heist.

Four of the best new bands from Belfast, Derry and around those parts.

THE DEBONAIRES (Bangor, C.Down)
...straddle the gulf between thrusting robotic rock and pure pop perfection with the ease of a 5000 ft tall cyborg programmed with Michael Jackson's least paedophilic dance moves. Prepare to be crushed under their mighty riffs and choruses, scarred by their razor sharp hooks and slayed by their unique line in 'witty' stage patter.

YAKUZA (DC - DUNGANNON / COALISLAND, Co. Tyrone)
Raised on an unsteady diet of The Birthday Party, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr and Truman's Water, these twisted mid-Ulster hallions have an amazing batch of new songs which take the electric white boy blues of debut album One Nation Under Awed to a seedy post-punk disco before locking them in and burning the bastard to the ground. They'll take your face off and enjoy themselves doing it.

JUST A WORD (Armagh City, Co. Armagh)
Hip-hop you don't stop, especially for this heavy hitting crew of white bread muthafuckas comin' straight outta Armagh City with balls the size of cathederal bells and even bigger tunes. They're five stone cold killers who'll fuck yo' shit up real good with their gritty tales of Northern Irish urbanity and fine head nodding grooves.
www.justaword.com

CONTRABAND (Banbridge, Co. Down)
Like a vagina with teeth, the screaming punk rock of Contraband is not to be f**ked with. If The Distillers' Brody Dalle spent less time on picking out her carefully pre-ripped outfits and getting up the duff by passing members of Queens of the Stone Age, her band might have a shot at sounding as raw, visceral and downright lethal as this Banbridge three piece. Incendiary.

TRACER AMC (Belfast)
Tracer AMC offer the finest in atmospheric instrumental post-rock. Like a sonic cathedral crumbling into the ocean down a cliff face at sunset, their music is by turns beautiful, haunting and powerfully moving. A big hits when they played the Windmill a couple of years ago, The Russian Futurists are one man pop orchestra Matthew Hart and some friends who are equally handy on keyboards. This is their only London show to promote their excellent third album 'Our Thickness' and it's a show that should entice fans of Flaming Lips, Magnetic Fields and The Postal Service not to mention the many who own and cherish the RF's first two discs.
an exuberantly echoing starburst of lo-fi twee-pop gone grand, an opulent boudoir popera for the Taj Mahal. A crashfest of cheapo synths, poppity drums, and spun-sugar vocals. It's an IMAX epic shot on Super8 and projected onto a bed sheet, a sumptuous coronation parade in a snowglobe, a theme park made of Tinker Toys postage-stamp epics, majestic in miniature. AU REVOIR SIMONE (Brooklyn, NY)
All-girl trio whom produce light-as-air pop via keyboards and synths. Signed to Moshi Moshi (the Rakes, Architecture In Helsinki, Roland Shanks etc), they offer a warm sweeping sound with little hints of the likes of Stereolab and Magnetic Fields.

WE ARE SOLDIERS WE HAVE GUNS (Gothenburg)
We are soldiers we have guns consists of Malin Dahlberg (Douglas Heart, Laurel Music), with help from a few friends.
Already established as one of Sweden's finest indie-pop vocalists, the forthcoming self-titled EP is a further testament to Malin's vocal and songwriting talents in a
collection of pure sounding songs that'll chill your spine, then melt your heart. Music rarely sounds this honest.

Thu 27thWindmill Brixton presents:

THE Dt's (Bellingham, WA)
Welcome to the HARD SOUL REVUE!
Made up of ex-Mono Men, Watts, Wizards of Oz, Madame X (not the 80’s hair-metal band) and Slick Watts members, the Dt’s are: Dave Crider (guitar), Diana Young-Blanchard (vocals), Phil Carter (drums) and Scott Greene (bass, keys, sax).
'A band over 10 years in the making', the Dt’s first formed as a threesome in November 0f 2001, approximately, when guitarist Dave Crider and vocalist Diana Young-Blanchard joined forces with ex-Watts’ Phil “fill in” Carter on skins. These veteran musicians achieved such an amazing, full-on sound as a three-piece, all thoughts of adding the traditional bass guitar were forgotten for the time being. Eventually the 3 were joined by ex-Roof Dogs’ organist Patti Bell on keys, adding yet another layer of soul-flavor to this burgeoning new band, and in April of 2004 the Dt’s released their first full length CD, 'HARD FIXED' to rave reviews (chec k their website). Recently the band made yet another exchange: the mutually agreed upon retirement of organist Patti Bell for the multi-talented (and equally good looking) Scott Greene (predominantly laying down some fat-bottomed bass, but from time-to-time providing same-said soul grooves on the keys and sax).
The Dt’s, fueled by equal parts inspiration and perspiration, combine their love of dirty R&B, raw soul and loud, hard rock, creating their own brand of down-home, high voltage, power-punching grooves, uniquely coining a fresh genre of “HARD SOUL” for a Post, Post Modern world!
